Overview and Features

Realtek tutorial provided by jkesa

The ALC650 is an 18-bit full-duplex six-channel AC’97 codec developed specifically for PC-based sound systems.  It supports three pairs of audio outputs with independent volume control.  The codec is equipped with its own amplifier (50mV/20Ohm) for headphones, which decreases the list of electronic components and the overall motherboard cost.  The basic characteristics of Realtek ALC650 are as follows: Signal/noise ratio above 90dB; 18-bit ADC and 20-bit six-channel DAC; Four auxiliary analog stereo inputs for connection of internal audio sources (Line-in, CD, Video, Aux); Two auxiliary analog mono inputs (for PC-beep and Phone-in); One mono output; Stereo output; One standard microphone input plus one specific Front-Mic input (user-selected); Line-in is joined with Surround output; the Mic1 and Mic2 are joined with Center and LFE outputs; 3D Stereo Enhancement; External amplifier turn-off function; Digital S/PDIF output. Many users report sound of higher quality than the SB PCI-128.

Realtek AL650 Tips

The Realtek ALC650 drivers and Media Player are not included on all the Abit NF7 or NF7-M installation CD's. They are available from www.realtek.com.tw.  Be careful not to get the versions of the drivers that are intended only for use on HP systems. Check the website often for new and improved driver updates. Make sure you have DirectX 8.1 or higher installed on your system. Check the Soundstorm section for more general sound tips and tricks.
